CARLYLE FAMILY CEMETERY, Capon Bridge, WV


This cemetery is located off of Cold Stream road out of Capon Bridge. There is a dirt/paved road about 1/2 mile or so on the left. Take the left and travel about 1 mile. Right before the road takes a sharp left, you will see the cemetery about 100 yards away in the grove of trees.

  • William Carlyle: died Feb 7, 1835; "Aged 95 years 11 Months & 21 Days" "In Memory Of".
  • Ann Carlyle: died Apr 22, 1831; "Aged 84 years 9 Months 10 Days".
  • Charles Carlyle: died Apr 7, 1849; "In Memory Of" "in the 79th year of his age".
  • Josephine Morris: born Dec 10, 1848; died Dec 10, 1848; "daug. of P & M Morris".
  • Margaret A. Morris: died Sep 1, 1852; "26 yrs & 2 mos" "wife of P. Morris".
  • Samuel Heflebower: died Jul 2, 1844; "aged 19 yrs 5 mos & 1 day" "son of David & Mary Heflebower" "Be ye also rady for in such an hour ar ye think not the Son of Man shall come".
  • David Heflebower: died May 20, 1863; "aged 71 years".
  • Mary A. Heflebower: died Dec 12, 1853; "wife of D. Heflebower" "50 yrs 3 mos. & 14 ds".
  • There are 3 other markers with no inscriptions on them, but appear to be graves. [It is believed that Elias Poston and his wife are buried in unmarked graves in this cemetery. His house stood nearby, and the Poston Ferry crossed the Cacapon River at this point.]
